C25K - Re-establishing an Exercise Program

I got a bit out of the habit of regular exercise with the excessive cold and bad weather we had this winter.  Since my running club wants to enter some races this year (and one member is training for the marathon!) I had better get it together.

It's not easy being the oldest, slowest, and only menopausal member of the club!

For fun I downloaded the "Couch to 5K" program (known as C25K) onto my iPhone as a way to getting everything revved up again.

I just started today - are you getting your exercise either back on track or shaken up for "Spring Training"?

Menopause and Sleep

I hate to be the bearer of bad news.  But it turns out that menopause just goes on and on.  It's enough to make you wish for the good old days of cramps and annoyance.

But I'll also bring some good news about sleep - if you are a regular reader you might remember this post about my sleep despair and how I conquered it - and I just want to report that although other symptoms returned with a vengeance after getting a period, I'm cool on the sleeping.

Now I'm working on hot flash reduction.  Any ideas?

Hot Flashes of Death

Holy crap. That's all I can say. I thought (a bit smugly I might add) that I had gotten through the worst of menopause. Got the sleep thing adjusted. Hadn't had a hot flash in months.

Then I got my period. And it's been horrible all over again. The emotional roller coaster. The random exhaustion. AND THE HOT FLASHES OF DEATH.

I'm often just sitting there, minding my own business, when WHAM. About half the time triggered by stress (very minor stress, which is ANNOYING.) And the other half out of the blue.

Has this happened to anyone else? How did you combat it? I'm going crazy. Sweaty eyes is just not a good look for me.

I'd Love to Make a Coherent Post...

I still have plenty of things to say about the suckitude that is menopause, but it's hard to remember what it is. And when I do remember, it's hard to organize my thoughts.

Because I have THE MENOPAUSE.

New Year: Slow Start But Good Attitude

It's been so cold that I haven't been able to run for several weeks. The big surprise? I miss it!

I have been able to get some several-mile walks in, but not with any real consistency. Currently sidelined with a cold, but anxious to get back into an exercise routine.

Menopause coping-strategies still in place, and except for getting enough exercise things are on an even keel. I guess the thing is that we all have to find the balance that works specifically for us.

For me, that was finding a way to get enough sleep. Everything else falls behind that, because without enough quality sleep everything falls apart. Also important: find a way to laugh at this stage with all the weird things going on with your body THAT NO ONE EVER TOLD YOU WOULD HAPPEN.

I wonder if *this* is the year that I finally lose some of the weight as well as stay fit. What about you?

Love,
Owlette
